Hello from Guadalajara!
Since I wrote last Wednesday I feel like I have so much, but so little to say all at the same time. The past few days have consisted a lot of heat, bugs, intercambios, camels, donkeys, and some rain. Haha.
We had intercambios with the hermanas from Torrejón this past weekend and I was with Hermana Modugno (from Italy!). She is finishing her mission in the next 2 weeks and it was so great to serve with her again. (She was my sister training leader in the islands more than 6 months ago!) they are in an area with a lot of Africans who speak English and we had to teach in English and let's just say that my prayer in English to start the lesson was a struggle.... 😳 haha how embarrassing!!
Saturday we helped them pack up their piso because they are moving. Hermana Estrada and I were trying to move a table from one room to the other and shortly after trying to get it through the door, we realized that we were going to need some help. Nephi from the Book of Mormon came to my mind and I remembered the story when his brothers had him all tied up and he was a little stuck. Nephi says "O Lord, according to my faith which is in thee, wilt thou deliver me from the hands of my brethren; yea, even give me strength that I may burst these bands with which I am bound."
Ok, now obviously I wasn't bound with cords and I wasn't in a "life or death" situation, I didn't have someone planning my destruction, but we had a table that needed to be moved and we needed some help. In this situation and in the prayer offered by nephi, we can see that he didn't pray to have his circumstances changed, but he prayed for the strength to change his circumstances. The bands didn't magically fall off his hands and wrists, but he was blessed with persistence and personal strength, and I think as well the patience to endure what was happening.
As we attempted with the table and the door, we quickly realized that a prayer is what we needed. We stood there, explained our problem to our Father in Heaven and we didn't ask him to make the door frame wider or magically put the table in the other room, but we asked for help, ideas, patience, and the strength to get to table through the door. We closed the prayer and we were determined and ready to keep trying. With teamwork and guidance, we got the table through the door! This may seem like such a little deal, all it was was a table and a door. Oh palease. But to me this was a learning experience and it was putting in practice what we study and read from the scriptures. The atonement, our savior is always there for us, His strength is there. He's always there, ready, urgent and wanting to help us!
Elder Bednar says "As you and I come to understand and employ the enabling power of the Atonement in our personal lives, we will pray and seek for strength to change our circumstances rather than praying for our circumstances to be changed. We will become agents who act rather than objects that are acted upon (see 2 Nephi 2:14)."
I just want to testify that I know that our Savior lives and I know that He loves us. I know that through Him and His atonement, we really can make miracles and we will be lifted up. I love my savior and I feel so blessed for His love, patience and example to me everyday. I love serving, I love the work and I love this gospel. We are in the truth! I know the scriptures are the word of God and I want to invite each of you to read the book of morning, everyday! There really is such a power in the Book!
Have a great week!
Life is great, the church is true, I'm a child of god and so are you!❤️
